SAT Course of Study

I would like to ask current CCer's if the "Revolution Prep" $499 study course is really worth it in terms of the practice tests, study materials, helpful teaching instruction, etc. My current PSAT scores are (both cold):

Freshman: 195
Sophomore: 205

Obviously the improvement is minimal, but I truly intend to earn a Merit Scholarship this year for the 2011 PSAT examination. Is indepedent study enough, or are SAT courses, like Revolution Prep, a necessary investment?

I ask primarily because I also aim to take the official SAT on Nov. 6 (because my school's Q1 ends a few days before that. Comments on this decision would certainly be appreciated). The two courses which RP offers are:

(1) August 25-Oct 6
(2) September 25-Nov 2

If RP works, then (1) seems to be the best option to prepare for the PSAT. If RP doesn't work for the PSAT then (2) seems to be the best option. If the entire service fails in general, neither of the two are valid options.

I appreciate all relevant comments.

Initiate bumping… NOW!

My school offered Revolutionary Prep, and without a doubt it is the worst SAT course i have ever taken. I had a teacher that taught 5 kids including myself and lessons went on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 9pm and there was a test every Saturday for 10 weeks. They give you a book to study but it’s useless and the course itself was a flat out joke, my teacher who is going to graduate school this very year, taught us nothing, all the so called tips he gave us were stupid unfortunately.

I also had a friend tutor me, he himself received a 2370 on the SAT and he told me that while i was taking the course, he got offered a job to teach there. (mind you he wasnt a very good teacher)

Overall i do not recommend you to go for the revolutionary prep course. What i do recommend you to do is study by yourself, and if you cant, get yourself a tutor. That 500 dollars can be easily spent on better review books like direct hits 1 and 2, rocket review, and the utter most important Blue book

(dont make the same mistake i did) -Dave

thanks, I appreciate the information.
