SAT CR is holding me back

Hey guys...
Im kinda depressed about my cr score and my chances of getting accepted to my ED The Cooper Union (Engineering).
My overall score is a 2030 (740 math, 740 writing, 550 critical reading)
And I have a 800 in SAT Chem and a 740 in Math I

I feel like im a top notch student, definitely in the top 5% of my grad class with a 4.40 weighted gpa (not sure if this websites calculator is correct) and a 4.0 not weighted gpa.
Ive been doing well in every AP Class that I have taken. AP Chemistry score was a 5, and now im in AP Calc BC and AP Physics B and I love the classes.
I feel like my EC are okay. My whole life outside of school is really about golf, its the one thing im really passionate about. I wrote a whole essay on it just a few weeks ago and every teacher that read it said that they want to try the sport (good luck with a full -time commitment to being a teacher). Im now co captain of my golf team and I have been playing for about 4-5 years and most recently placed 12th in the NYC tournament. I volunteer and have a job at my local golf center, Im an assistant prof. for juniors who want to learn the game. Im on the robotics team in the FTC and I am one of the designers and the designated driver at our tourneys. Ive played guitar for 4 years but never really got any accolades from that. Ive been in a model congress program. I was one of the few students selected to go to Spain from my honors spanish class but I had to turn it down for financial reasons. I was even one of few selected to fly an actual single engine plane for having an above 95 avg in our flight science class. Ive done peer tutoring and teacher monitoring.

Basically what im asking is there any hope?
I know CU is a reach for anyone but is there anything, ANYTHING I can do to help my application to have a better shot. I wish I could take the SAT again but it's too late.
Help is extremely appreciated, thank you

Do you have time to try the ACT? My DS, like you, is extremely strong in math and science. Did well on SATIIs, as well as SAT Math. He tried the ACT and, with practice, was able to get both English and Reading up to 30 on each part (much higher on math and science sections). This was a lot better than the 580 he got on the SAT CR. This really helped him and he only submitted ACTs with his apps. I started a thread about such “lopsidedness” during the last school year. Maybe you can find it. I think with engineering students, this is not uncommon.

Good luck to you!

I do think you have some kind of chance. If everything else is really good, they might take you. Like maybe write an excellent essay? My CR score is also terrible and i’m planning on doing engineering as well so… SAT is just one part of the application.

agree with liny - ACT reading dense and high level but NO tricks. All kids I know who did well on math stayed same but all improved CR

I agree with Liny too. My D aced math and writing on both tests. Studied like crazy for SAT but in practice tests CR got stuck around 700, no matter what she did, and on actual test, score was 720, while ACT reading was MUCH easier, and she was able to ace that.

You can’t make your self crazy about trying to get into Cooper Union by upping one score. You are a well qualified applicant, but the 8% acceptance rate speaks for itself.
Who knows, maybe the golfing thing might help you stand out from the crowd?

Never heard of it, but it sounds really interesting. I don’t think that the CR will matter quite as much, but it still might hurt.

hey guys i really appreciate it. Im doing ED and yea I think its too late for the ACT. I hope that I have a chance. SAT CR is the only thing that I really had a problem with in high school, and I hope my colleges see that.
