it wasn't, irritated was a different answer because it connected to the "irksome" that the narrator used in the passage right afterwards.

it was systematic and thorough because the narrator said basically how there was a whole checklist of things that they went through as a result of seeing an asian on TV, and the narrator got offended by it because the dad was like, how come you look so ugly compared to the miss world contestants.

what'd you put for the VCR era one?

wait wasn't "critical" mentioned in one of the choices? i put the choice with critical.. in it..

@shivshanker: It was excitement because they were all super happy when they saw that there was a real asian on TV.......

which is another question too, with the chubby asian guy because they were happy to see more asians on TV i believe.

can someone spell out exactly which were the possible experimentals? I'm very confused (and yes i read the whole thread)

Did anyone get Technical and Bewildering for the Asian Passage question about the parents....the passage said succint and passionate which would make sense with technical-succint and passionate-bewildering

explode: i got critical as well

i think the narrator was compared with the checklist but that the father actually believed that the narrator should be miss world, which is "innocent". It is also "amusing" cause all the brothers laughed at her and stuff. I didn't think the comparisons were particularly critical and i doubt they were "comprehensive" cause they were "succint as a sports anouncer"

Still not positive though, lol.

and yes, ssbands04, i think the were happy that normal regular asians were on TV. i thought that passage was hilarious. anybody remember any more....

something about fire developing? it was number 4. but i dont remember what the answer was.

it was definitely systematic and thorough, it really wasnt any of teh other answers, and anyone trying to argue another way is just feeling bad about getting it wrong. Honestly though, i'm sure i got a bunch wrong too, and it's really not a big deal in the grand scheme of the test, 20 points give or take.

i also put innocent and amusing.

It wasn't systematic. There was nothing that supported that it was systematic, in my opinion. They actually said in the passage that the dad's comments were succinct, so it couldn't have been thorough.

I put innocent and amusing. The parents enjoyed doing it, and the brothers all laughed when the narrator was compared to the Miss World women. The parents didn't intentionally try to scrutinize the narrator. It was just innocent commentary.

lol, i probably read some of these passages too closely so i'll just wait and see in february.

How did the author of passage 2 view the criticism of Pound (the translator who focused on the sounds of the words)?

i thought it was critical something! or was that... different.......

foible(s)?!

okay for the sentence completion. the one with epidemiologists: was it contain and check? also the one with the lady and her words were...incantatory..unstinting?

yes for epidemiologists.

i actually put "economical" for the lady

did you say the translation of the title 1001 arabian nights?

i said the translation of "it is cold" to "it has cold" since the latter has "no meaning"

I think I picked the "It makes cold" something answer, but I wasn't sure either.
