<p>Can somebody help me with this quick question, please?</p>
<p>Because the congresswoman has been so openhanded with many of her constituents, it is difficult to reconcile this ----- with her private -----.</p>
<p>(A) selfishness .. inattention
(B) insolence .. virtue
(C) magnanimity .. pettiness
(D) opportunism .. ambition
(E) solicitousness .. generosity</p>
<p>The answer, according to the book, is B but I don't understand why.</p>

<p>To be honest, I would have said C, because openhanded means generous, which matches the first of word of letter C, magnanimity. And the second word must mean something that has negative connotations, which is correctly expressed with the word pettiness…B, on the other hand, doesn’t make sense to me because insolence means rude, not generous (it’s supposed to mean generous).</p>
<p>The answer seems to be (C).</p>
