SAT CR question please help!

We accept the differences and expect them to observe or exceed certain conventions of plausilbility and exaggeration, usefulness and fantasy. At the same time we know that this detour of art will deliver us back before long into the track of our life, which may be changed or influenced in some manner by the side trip.

First sentence of the paragraph "A work of art of literature removes us temporarily from the regular path of our life and diverts us into a party imaginary domain.."
Question: as used in line 31, the idea of a "detour" represents

a. the fact that art can be a guide through life
b. the fact that art is intentionally misleading
c. the stylistic shift that inevitably occurs in a field of art (this ones wrong don't even bother
d. a work of art as both entertaining and relevant
e. a work of art as different from everyday life

I’m gonna go with e. I’ll feel stupid if I’m wrong.

Correct! can you explain to me why d is wrong and e is right? Great job!

(e) is right as stated above :stuck_out_tongue: What I understood from the question was that art is like this thing in life that provides a detour in life i.e. small diversion from the norm. (a) seemed intriguing so I kept it in mind. (b) sounds like hogwash and hasn’t been stated anywhere in the passage. (c) never stated in the passage as well. (d) The passage did state something like this but this does not comply with the question asked at all thus, no. (e) hmmm I am interested in this one. Dismissed three answers so only (a) and (e) left and (e) seems much better here. It fits the original partial answer that I had thought up. Thus I would choose (e).
