Hey guys, I'm going to take the AP EngLang exam in May and the SAT II sometime this school year as well. I have been doing some practice tests of the eng lang test in school and the multiple choice questions are pretty hard compared to the sat cr.

i was wondering what is the exact relationship between the two, and whether study for one will improve my skill for the other.

The passages on the English Language are more difficult than those from the SAT. Also the questions on the Eng Language test will often require you to know some technical diction (like rhetorical terms) that you learn specifically in class. There will be some correlation between the two tests and taking the class itself will improve your English skills. Everyone will score lower on the AP, however. I usually had 5-6 wrong out of the 55 questions on AP practice tests, whereas on the Oct SAT, I had 1 wrong out of 67 questions on the CR.

I had a 5 on the AP and an 800 on the CR. The AP, of course, has 55% of your grade in the form of essays. I had a 790 on the Writing last month and a 12 on the essay. There is a very positive correlation between success on one and success on the other, albeit not a perfect one since different skills are tested. The SAT is more reasoning-based whereas the AP is more achievement-oriented. But of any of the AP tests, the Eng Language probably requires the least instruction since relatively few facts are tested.
