SAT Critical Reading thread

Was the Nixon/Cold War/Kitchen debates one experimental?

Arggg…stupid vocab.
As of right now, I’m looking at about:
CR= -4 or 5
M= none yet
W= -1

any idea of a score range?

and i’d say like an 11 for the essay

Here were some of the experimental CR vocab words I had. 2nd question was beginnings, 8th question I couldn’t get, the choices were caricature, surrogate, personification and I forgot the other two. #7 the answer was endemic to, #6 the answer was mnemonic… reciting, other choices were ephithet, chimeras and I forgot the other two. #3 was passionate… phlegmatic, other choices were maudlin…fervent and the other two were wrong so I didn’t remember. Crazy words…

lucky me I didn’t have have that experimental section xD, I would have nuked it

It was my first section after the essay too. I’m like Oh crap… knew I shouldn’t have taken December…

@vermillion any ideas besides that experimental CR section what the other experimetanl sections were? xD

It was my first time, never taken the SAT before, currently a Senior, does anyone think it’s sensible to go there testing with a cold/running nose, the room had A/C on and it was freeezing, 5 hours of sleep, and i hadn’t eaten anything in the last 12 hours? xD

I heard three different versions of experimental, I can’t remember anything from any of them though…

aww rats ><

I guess it was too much to hope for anyway.

@Arctk3
One mistake in your reasoning is that you are pulling information about storytellers from OUTSIDE the text. All answers for CR MUST BE IN THE TEXT, even if the question you to “infer”. Once sentence stated “everyone lies at some point in their storytelling in order to conform with their previous sentences”. Nowhere in the passage is the “rearrangement of stories” mentioned. Thus, I don’t think your answer is correct.

Well it was just my explanation of it and I did say that I choose either between shape and edit or rearrange. Just can’t remember which.

@bob Also thanks bob for remembering what the actually sentence was xD, makes it easier to discuss what the correct answer could have been rather than people merely speculating with their own explanations(such as myself)

The biofuel passages were bs…

biofuels were a tad confusing. jking, i got mind*ed. Going to community college now so I guess I don’t have to give a single * about standardized testing or high school anymore.

What did everyone put for the Memory passage where the question asks why the narrator asked “Did I know him from school?” It was either speculate about origin about boyhood friendship or something about solving his own concerns.

I put the “hints at the real meaning” something. I don’t think it was the “speculate about origin of boyfriend friendship” because that was insignificant.

I put it was origins about boyhood friendship, it was either that or something to do with the inaccuracy of his memories in my opinion.

The reason i choose origins about boyhood friendship is because he mentions the kid he was playing with by name yet when he asked that question it made me wonder if that kid might have either been someone he knew before and just simply forgot or his memories of who that friend of his was inaccurate xD

the CR was too hard and had too many ambiguous questions xD

ok so there are a few I’m not sure about with CR:

1) meaning of giddy (i put capricious)
2) what was the purpose of the musk?
3) Did barbara jordan “secure” or “win over” a place in history?
4) In the memory passage did the man say that memories are “shaped, edited” or “arranged to conform to previous conception”?

1)its not capricious. Capricious means sporadic, which apperently it was not.
2) Musk, I wanted to know too. I put expensive and hard to find largly because of the word luxurious
3) I put win over, but the definition for secure is to gain. I though secure assumes you already have it and are simply reinforcing it
4) I put rearragned.l I remember the passage talking about “reordering” but not exactly sure

Secure. Did you pick sardonic for one of the questions?

I put capricious, if it was i’d be happy :)
