i put to advise because the question asked “The paragraph is the author’s attempt to”… Its not like the paragraph was his attempt to gain emotional control. Rather, he was attempting to advise other authors.

i thought it was to gain emotional control b/c he feels really panicky and he wants to write all his feelings out. i dont think he thinks he has enough knowledge or experience to advise others to do what he does… it was more like “i need stability and help in my life so i’m gonna write even though i cant find the right words”

@Monepo
Do you remember the sentence(s) in the passage that justified your reasoning? I don’t think the 4th paragraph was offering any advice. Wasn’t the paragraph discussing the horse and the sympathetic attitudes of the people around it.

also, for those who put juxtaposition as the answer to the sentence completion, what was your reasoning behind? and what about the mayor one? am i the only one who chose it !?:’(

@bob12345 - it was the paragraph right before the attitudes of the people… it was the paragraph on the analogy to the leaves and branches (i think)

i know that my question’s paragraph reference contradicts with this question; i think i meant paragraph 5 not 4… sorry :X

I first put juxtaposition: side by side positioning, but I erased it and hcanged it to semblance: outward appearance

I put semblance too ^. Although I just totally guessed lol

@bob I’m talking about the paragraph where he says you should never stop writing. one emotion is never the end. …or something like that. It was the paragraph before the pony war one.

@others The general consensus seems to be juxtaposition, but I think semblance is still a strong candidate. If anyone remembers exact phrasing, one of them can be ruled out.

can we collectively compile a key?

The answer to the one sentence completion was almost certainly juxtaposition as the sentence talked about how the unusual combination of metal, driftwood and something else that I forgot made the art unique. Juxtaposition was the only work that correctly fit it.

well if its juxtaposition, thats good… since i put that. but cant machination work? one defintion of it is an art design or something like that… also, @monepo, yea he did say how time heals all emotions… but wasnt that just him trying to reassure himself or was it him telling other authors? idk… it just seemed as if he was trying to calm himself down… ugh anyone else care to join in?

I said machination as well…

what did everyone get for the question in the passage about memory that had one of the answers as “to find the origins of his friendship”

i think that reached the consensus ^ as “to find the origins of his friendship” but im not sure… that seemed like a pointless question

machination is a design crafty or arty for evil purposes though… juxta was the much better answer imo. i don’t recall her trying to put together different elements for an evil reason?

tru^, and for semblance, i think its wrong because it implies that its not actually what it outwardly looks like. So juxtaposition :)

fiberglass and steel really isn’t a juxtaposition though, is it?

@thaman - juxtaposition means simply positioning two unlikely things to accentuate the difference

so what’s the consensus on the purpose of paragraph 4 on the war passage? to control his emotions or to give advice to other authors?
