My vocabulary is extremely weak and since the SAT has a large amount of vocabulary based questions I feel like it will bring my reading score down a lot. Is there any tips on what I should do about this? I am getting the College Board book from amazon to prepare for the test and I have a set of Kaplan flashcards but I don't believe that will be enough. I'm a junior planning to take the SAT in June or May.

Get Larry Krieger’s SAT Vocabulary: The Essential 500 Words. Don’t try to memorize those lists of SAT vocab words that have like 3000 words. It’s impossible and a huge waste of time. The CB actually repeats a certain amount of words on their tests, and most are covered in Krieger’s book. Also, if the word has appeared before on one of CB’s tests, make sure you know it.

As for studying tips, I recommend NOT just memorizing the word and definition but actually trying to use the words in sentences. You’ll remember them better that way. Also, in general, vocabulary is built up over time. Are you much of a reader? Try looking up every unfamiliar word you come across when you read (and it can be from anything: the newspaper, a book, a blog, etc.) and compile them somewhere, possibly in a word document or journal.

I agree that vocabulary is built over time with a lot of reading. I have been reading from a young age, so my vocabulary is pretty proficient. If you do not do this, I suggest that you study 10-15 words each day. Use quizlet or paper flashcards to reinforce your knowledge each day.

DIRECT HITS CORE AND TOUGHEST VOCAB ARE THE BEST!!!

like it has a lot of the words that, for me, I used to see on the SAT and be like “ughhh I’ve seen that word plenty of times but I don’t remember what it means”…that frustrating moment was resolved when I got the DHCV and DHTV vocab…like you’ll probably notice it, too haha
