i'm taking the SAT's for the first time in June and i'm hearing alot of people discussing the score curve..

this might be a stupid question, and i'm sorry if it is, but how is the curve on the scores determined, and how will this affect my scores?

The curve sets up scores so that 50% of people get 500, 99.9 get 800. Depending on the difficulty of the test determines how much each raw score is worth.

well that sucks.. that means if alot of people take the SAT and score very well, the raw score will not be worth as much?

pretty much. you can have the same raw score on different dates and end up with a very different scaled score.

yes, that's why the May test (during AP's) usually get better curves

Hey, as long as you have practiced and know what you're doing, you'll do fine. The curve generally doesn't throw you off that much, I promise you won't find yourself with a crappy score solely because of the curve, though you might find yourself scoring 10s of points higher/lower than predicted.
