SAT Curves?

How exactly do the SAT curves work? I've been hearing lots of different ideas including that there is no curve...so I'm a bit confused...
lol i hope there is a curve, but that might be wishful thinking.. :P.

there definitely is a curve, because for some tests, a -1 will get you an 800 but in others, up to 3 or even 4 gets you a 800 as well! im hoping there was a good curve for the december sats!!! :)

thanks, and yeah me too! I just took it today…thought it was pretty easy, but curve wouldn’t hurt!

Take a look at this thread, where I answered the very same question.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1239476-what-curve.html

The Dec test is supposed to have one of the best curves, but I’m worried because for the Nov test, 1 question wrong on math = around a 40 point deduction. And CR TOO! Which is kind of ridiculuos.

!!!

one of my friends told me this today – is it really true that they create the curve/scale BEFORE the test results are assembled? i was thinking thats not very efficient, because the collegeboard would not know how (Generally) well people did. Just determining the curve based on the difficulty of the test is not very…fair!

^That is correct. College Board/ETS assembles ALL curves for all forms of the various SATs before they are administered.

I found the December 3rd 2011 test ridiculously easy, while a friend said it was harder than last month’s. WHAT GIVES!

Frankly, you really can’t predict curves based on how hard you felt the test was, and since the curve is beyond our control, I usually don’t worry about it too much.

Which month(s) do you think have the best curves for SAT? I heard March, June, and October are bad. What about the other months? I just took it in this month and the CR was much harder than I expected.

@parkie- I have never heard of or seen a curve that generous. 4 wrong for an 800? I got 5 wrong for CR last test and received a 710… The only time 4 wrong could POSSIBLY get CLOSE to an 800 would be in the writing section, on an extremely harsh curve, with a 12 on the essay. -_-

Disregard my above link, the information there, as pointed out by others, is erroneous.
