I took my first SAT in June and I got my scores back today. They were kinda bad (Critical Reading 620, Math 590, Writing 650 Total-1860). Can you suggest some ways to raise up my score (especically in math)?

Buy the college board official SAT book. It has 8 real practice tests in there. I did 2 tests the week before my 2nd sat (june) and my score went from 1920 first try (680M 630 CR 610 W) to 2150 (780M 710CR 660W).

math is very easy to up your score. You know all of the material. Its very easy 8th grade stuff. But, the way its presented is more difficult. Try to go through a book and look at some of the concepts and look at what you dont remember to get a more solid foundation for your knowledge

Will a 750 writing make up for a 660 in reading (800 math)?

The best way to improve on writing is to practice, practice, practice. Reviewing grammatical rules and such won't really help (unless English isn't your first language), and you just need to get used to the kind of things they are looking for-- parallel structure, subject-verb agreement, etc.

I'd also suggest that, if you have time, underline both the subject and the verb or adjective that describes it, and read the sentence to yourself as if speaking it.

thanks guys...do you think a 2100 is feasible if i study a lot?

also, do you think the PR Practice 11 Tests is beneficial?

By all means a 2100 is feasible
I got an 1850 last October, and now my highest composite score is a 2140, and one sitting score is 2090
The first time is rough for a lot of people

ksquared, how many times have u taken the SAT since ur october score cause thats a really big improvement

I want to know how to improve Math, too, as well as the Writing. I got a CW 720, W 630 (ouch! Don't know why this isn't higher since I'm an absolute GRAMMAR NAZI! Should be easy to improve, though), and the killer - M 550, total - 1900 :( Will doing all those practice tests help? I panicked during the SATs the first time and I did miserably even though I did about 5 different practice tests. I did, however, do them the week before I took that SAT since it was spring break and I had nothing else better to do xD

Would spacing them out help for someone like me, you think? It would definitely make me less prone to panic, but I don't know if things will really stick for the next test which is in October, I believe.

I know this is a silly question as you answered this for dumbstruck1089, but do you think I could possibly get a 2100? 2200? My goal for math is ANYWHERE in the 600s, but even that sounds out of my league considering I'm go brain dead in the face of Math (well, being that I'm Asian, that is XD). I'm hoping that during the test my inner Asian will wake up during the test and I'll know all the Math answers hahaha XDDD It hasn't happened yet but I'm hoping ;)

I thought the PR 11 was very good for math. Helped me raise my math by 100 points from 580 to 680. :)

I'm disgusted...1880...That's horrible. My PSAT scores were more than 100 points higher. Of course, I didn't get to finish the first three sections, since our proctor decided it was better to go off his watch (which was eight minutes ahead of the clock on the wall). I'm very disappointed. Oh, at the moment I'm so glad I don't go to the school where I took it. I would not be very pleased to have to see that proctor every day, let alone have him as a teacher...

yeah, i did really bad on the test
720 M
660 W
570 R

Joycelene, maybe u can take the reading for me, and ill take the math for u... lol that would be cool, jking of course

I took the Sat in January and June after October (1850), scoring a 2000 and 2090 respectively
