SAT Essay- 2 examples or 3+ examples?

I got an 8 on my last essay with 2 examples... which is predictable because my second example was quite weak. ANYWAY- has anyone ever gotten a good essay score (10 or better) with only 2 examples? Should you ALWAYS have at least 3?

i say have 3. statistically, writing more than a page gives you a greater chance of a double digit score. i got that from a wikipedia article on the sat and personal experience.

Two is definitely stronger. I always pick one personal example that I exaggerate/make up, and one from Literature since my classes force me to read so many books.

Make sure these examples are comprehensive and… “legit.” With three examples, you’re forcing yourself to do surface level analysis that won’t really be impressive to the reader.

Two paragraphs of analysis.

i only used two examples, and i got a 12 in october.
i feel like if you use 3 and fill up 2 pages, you might not have enough analysis for your examples to be strong enough for high scores. it’s better than you fill both pages with two examples with extensive analysis, so your examples are stronger.

btw, by analysis, i don’t mean lengthy narration of your example, but rather how it corroborates your thesis, essentially “This shows that…”

On my first ever SAT I went in blind and therefore used only one example. Ended up getting an 8 on the essay and 710 writing. I wish I had known about the structure beforehand -_-

My problem with 2 examples is that whenever I try elaborating it and connecting it, I always feel like I repeat myself too much. When I “analyze” for the 2nd example I always end up writing the same kind of analysis I wrote in my first example. any advice?

I’ve been taught to use a minimum of 2 examples; only if the first two examples are stellar enough along with enough time is it truly necessary to write a third. Yes filling up all 2 pages is good, but if you’re going to write utter nonsense, well… it’s not happening.

Two well developed ones worked best for me

1st time with three examples I scored an 8. The second and third time with two, I scored 10 and 12 respectively

I’m a pretty wordy writer so I’ve found that my strength is to have 2 well developed body paragraphs rather than 3, because my third one always ends up weak, as if written as an afterthought.
I got a 10 with 2 examples and a 780 in writing.
