Hi,

I'm an international student who'll be taking my first SAT come Jan.

I don't really have a problem with the MCQ section (did some practice tests and fared pretty well), but I need help for the essay. I have looked through some essay samples given on the CB website and I have never even heard of many of the examples that are raised (people, novels, events etc) :(

From many threads here, I've read that you should prepare some examples that you can integrate into your essay no matter what the prompt is. But one problem is that I don't even know what kind of examples I'm looking for, so could someone help me out a little here? (like suggesting what field should I be looking into and some specific examples that may be helpful, or just in general how I can prepare for the essay).

Thanks!

I actuallt thought about something similar. As international students, would it be wise to provide examples from our own countries, i.e. from literature, politics etc.?

MLK, Gandhi, Animal Farm, 1984, Gone With the Wind, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Bill Gates, Howard Schultz, Jack Welch, and Catcher in the Rye are all good recyclable examples for the SAT essay. You can use events from your country, but be sure that most people (around the globe) would have a decent chance of knowing about them. Good luck!

Just find examples you are comfortable with from 3 topics: Literature, History and Current events (recent topics). Prepare at least 9, but the examples you pick MUST be ones you master really well. I chose: L’assommoir (by Emile Zola), Madame Bovary (by Flaubert), Pride and Prejudice, 1984, Pierre and Jean (by Maupassant), Romeo and Juliet, the movie Citizen Kane, Taiichi Ohno (the Japanese Toyota engineer) and French history (the Sun King, Louis XVI and the French Revolution).

For history, only pick events from Western countries.
