SAT essay feedback?

The following is an essay I just wrote while taking a practice test. What would you give this a score of out of 6? Any criticism, commentary, and scoring would be appreciated. This is my first attempt and I have kept all spelling as I wrote it. Thanks in advance:D

Prompt: Is conscience a more powerful motivator than money, fame or power?

Response:

Conscience is a more powerful motivator than money, power, or fame. Atticus Finch, Martin Luther King Jr. and many others have been compelled by their inner voice to sacrifice their own welfare for a cause they regarded more important than their own lives.

Atticus Finch, the protagonist of the novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird", is one example of those who are ruled by their morals. In a time of segregation and racism against African Americans, Atticus was appointed to defend a black man, who was accused of rape. Many townsfolk ridiculed and critisized Atticus for trying to defend the man, but Atticus insisted that it was a man's right to have a fair trial saying, "I am no idealist to believe that we are all created equal...because in reality we are created equal." Atticus is not only and examplary leader in his community, but also at home. He does not defend Tom Robinson for money or fame, but because it was the right thing to do.

Another example of those who acted in good conscience is Dr. Martin Luter King Jr. Considered a leader in the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. King often put his life and his family's life at risk in order to gain equal rights not only for blacks, but also women, children, and minorities. Although he went to jail for holding peaceful protests, Dr. King still continued with his movement. He stressed the principles of nonviolence. Many threatened to kill him and his family but King still continued. Dr King was shot and killed after giving his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, but was able to outlaw segregation. King was not motivated by power or greed but by his determination to acquire equal rights for all.

History and literature have provided many examples of those who put there lives a risk for the sake of morals. Although there are some who have been guided by wealth and power, those who follow their conscience are the ones that really leave a positive impact on the world and will be remembered for generations.

.....
After reading over it, I found a lot of mistakes and some sentences that don't even make any sense, but hopefully I'll get better:) Thanks again for any help.

Intro seems a bit weak, and in 25 minutes it could definately be longer, but other than that, a solid five.

Intros are not supposed to be long in the sat - check on a very intelligent persons guide on CC about how to get a 6 - hes an sat prep tutor - intros are short. Intros on the SAT are supposed to be to the point, and yours is. I would say this is a 5; maybe a 4 if the reader is grading hard. Transitions could be a bit better, and the writing is a bit novice. Try incorporating more figurative language, and put real emotion into the paper.

Say something like

"King courageously stressed the importance of civil rights, political justice, and equality nationwide. His thunderous chants of “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God almighty were free at last!”, echoed throughout the world, chilling the spine of a severely segmented world.

What are the SAT essays graded out of 10? Like AP tests?
