I wrote the essay in ink and only realized after the 25 minutes were up. I filled out some type of form trying to explain that i was in the AP mode and i didn't realize, also my test center was super unorganized and they barley read the directions (they skipped around). So when i called the SAT ppl they said that the testing office would contact me, however they are yet to do that. I was wondering if someone with experience can tell me if i will receive a zero or not?

And don't be a ****** and tell me that is says on the paper that essays written in ink will receive a grade of zero, i realize that!

well I haven’t had that experience… but according to other people if you write in pen the scanner doesn’t pick it up… but I think you can always have it hand graded…
I would call collegeboard and ask if you can have your essay hand graded… and if you also bubbled in your answers with pen, the scanner won’t pick that up either… so if you used pen for that too… just have it hand graded
good luck :)

Yea, thanks iwishicould
I called after the test and the people who pick up the phone have no authority to do anything, so they can only refer me to the testing ppl and they will contact me in 10-14 business days but that’s too long.
And lol thankfully i filled out the rest of the test in pencil

What do you mean it’s too late? I’m fairly certain that after you get your score, if it’s a zero or whatever, you can call and request it be re-graded by hand for a fee of around $50.

The best thing you can do right now is keep calling them, though, and get a definitive answer from them. You are going to get a better answer there from anyone on this board.

Unfortunately, you will get a 0. The scanner will not read the pen.

The hand-grading mentioned above isn’t what it sounds like for the SAT Essay, either. Score verification for the essay is where CB makes sure the 2 scores given by the graders were correctly factored into your score. The essay will not be re-read.

Unless the scanner magically picks up the pen, you will end up with a 0 essay.

If the student did not follow the published guidelines and writes the essay in pen the: :
Essay score does not change
Score verification fee is not refunded

Who cares? The best schools don’t care about your writing score AND you can always take it again (in pencil) and superscore. If you do get a zero, it will make for a great essay topic. You are fine. You will get into a wonderful college and have a fun story.

OUCH. I would definitely go with the person who talked about the $50 fee. Otherwise your SAT score would be pretty screwed up. The scanner will not pick up ink, and honestly I think it’s better to pay $50 than wasting a sitting…

My friend was actually in a similar situation on the AP tests when he wrote all his answers in the wrong insert so his answer sheet was virtually blank D:

Yea i will just talk to college board when they contact me

and yea i mean the two schools i am most interested in dont look at the writing section so w.e.

but the only problem with another sitting is that the next one is in the middle of varsity soccer season and with 3 hour practices 6 days a week it will be really tough for me to find time to study, so if i score well on cr and math do you think its worth me taking it again?

Hey guys so i have been in contact with the head of Testing Integrity at collegeboard and they said they would make a special exception for me since my testing center experienced so many complications and that could have resulted in them skimming over directions. They are grading it by hand and made me pay 50 something dollars. I guess i will have to wait now for my writing score.
