I took my first SAT test in January and wrote my first ever SAT essay in that setting--no practice or whatever. A few days ago, an SAT "expert" (you know, one of those people who just study how to take the test; they don't actually study the content), told me that the graders pay close attention to how much you write? This really concerns me, since I wrote a little more than a page. My writing is pretty small too, but he told me that the graders don't take this into account. I thought my essay was clear and concise, and I didn't want to fill it with fluff. How much did you guys write for your essays (in terms of pages), and what scores did you get?

The “expert” definitely has a point- From what i’ve heard, readers only get about 2 minutes to read your essay. One that is shorter may seem weaker than one which fills up the entire space given.
I took the January 2012 SAT (my first time) and I’m still waiting for my score. Anyways, I used up the entire space I had and I’m hoping for a 10+. You should look into the 10 days to a 12 essay link- it is a well-made guide which can get you started on the SAT essay writing.

Here it is: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/645763-how-write-12-essay-just-10-days.html

P.S.- I agree that avoiding Fluff is the best way to go in writing…MOST OF THE TIME. For SAT, fill up the entire thing.

Good Luck!
