SAT Essay - Quantity > Quality

I've had the SAT exam 2 times till now and I'm going to enter the coming June.
The highest essay mark I got was 7 and I'm planning to get like a 10. Any tips ? I've heard that quantity matters and a person who fills the two pages would probably get more than a person who writes a concise 1-page essay. Is that right??
Please help the exam is soon ! xC

I wrote a 9 using both pages, write well but write a lot. Use good vocabulary and lots of real life examples. I did the same on the ACT and got a 10.

2 relevant pages => at least 8
2 convincing pages => at least 9
2 convincing pages with precious words => double-digit

It was the first time I took the SAT so I don’t have much experience. I can’t finish my essay but still got a 9. I didn’t finish the conclusion. I wrote around one and a half page.

What everyone else said Is great but remember to also add a paragraph that comes from the opposite point of view and disprove the opposite point of view. They love that. If you at least act like you know what you are talking about you are in good shape

^definitely what he said, our Lang teacher told us to always do your counter argument first for act/sat

If you can think of an easy counterargument, you can add it. Just be clear that you are disproving it and supporting your thesis, because middle-of-the-road essays will get less consistent scores.

Write 2 pages. People who write more tend to get better scores. Try to keep quality as high as possible. Remember to use lots of adverbs and adjectives as you can throw in a lot of “big” words that way.

One of my English teachers is a collegeboard consultant and I’m not sure I doubt she grades essays but she always makes a strong point on doing what she calls Address to the opposition, which is basically a simple statement which can be anywhere but usually in your intro or better yet conclusion going along the lines of

Although (reasons opposing point could be better b;ah blah blah), this would not be better than (your side) because (blah blah blah)

Hope you get my drift, there’s an easy sentence to add to your essay. Would be good to use in your conclusion I’m guessing if you’re running out of time.

I wrote 2 pages and got a 9… though I would get a higher score…

i have another general sat essay question: is it better to expand one detailed example into 2-3 paragraphs or just develop 2-3 examples?

I would say multiple examples.

Yeah, I agree. Definitely write at least 2 pages for a 9+.
I wrote about 2 page with 4 paragraphs and got a 10.

I wrote dilligently and with quality. I wrote very well and wrote plenty.

I used big words and stayed on topic. Finished it at the last second. Of the greatest essays I’ve ever written

I made a 4

:</p>

I got a 12. I didn’t use fancy words, or elaborate sentence structures, or anything of the sort. I wrote 6 lines shy of 2 pages, and I constantly related my paragraphs back to my thesis and the point i was trying to prove.

1) write a lot
2) link back, link back, link back

Don’t worry about making it sound pretty; ARGUE. Be confident and firm in what you are saying. Take a stance and stick with it. If you do this, I’ll be surprised if you don’t score well.

Thank you everyone now I’m more confident. I think if i fill both pages with good links and 3-4 examples, including an opposing paragraph, I’ll do great.
Thank you people.

Btw people, does planning help? I’ve an English teacher who insisted on planning. She said: plan, plan and plan (for atleast 5 minutes!). But after that, will I be able to finish the essay, with almost the 2 pages full, easily?

I gave the sat thrice and my essay scores were this
8
8
11

What did I do differently the third time??
I stuffed those two papers like there is no tomorrow. However, it wasn’t all fluff. I just gave 4 examples to support my case. And explained all of them adequately.

That’s exactly what I’m gonna do tomorrow. Thanks mate :)

I filled 2 pages up with 3 examples. And got a 9. Now that I read my essay, it looks so incredibly bad and looks written by a 10 year old… hahahah, so fill it up, but if you can write better in 1.5 pages its much more worth it than 2 pages of blah.

In the essay today, I’ve filled a page and a half, but my hand writing is small :stuck_out_tongue:
But about examples, I mentioned only 2, one of which in very detail. :frowning: I think I’ll get an 8-9
