SAT essay question!

Let's say when you get the essay, it gives you a prompt that basically talks about how helping other people rather than being selfish is what can truly bring you to happiness.

Now, the actual question says "Are people more likely to be happy if they focus on goals other than their own happiness?"

Would it be okay for me to talk about how people can find happiness even when they are suffering just by knowing this suffering is bringing them closer to their goal? Or do I have to talk about what the prompt talked about, and say something along the lines of putting others before oneself is what really brings happiness to people?

Thanks!

You can just talk about suffering, and directly just start answering the question. You don’t have to read the prompt at all. It’s just there…well…I don’t know why it’s there. Maybe if someone has a serious mental roadblock? Knowing how vague the essay topics are, I don’t know how that’s possible…
