SAT Essay Score?

Hello! I am preparing for the SAT and would like some feedback on my essay. I know that I am not a strong writer and would love to improve. Thank you~

This was written in 25 minutes and I typed exactly what I had written onto this post.

Prompt: Should people make more of an effort to keep some things private?

Response: Social acceptance. Relatability. Connections. Many people within today’s society accentuate the necessity of friendships and social bonds as seen with the recent wave of social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. However, due to the sudden transition, people have lost their pursuit for privacy in certain aspects of their lives. It seems as though society feels obligated to tell one another the most intimate secrets to maintain a stable friendship. Both literature and modern America exemplifies that although bonds are absolutely beneficial, losing sight of personal issues may become a much larger problem in the end.

In Mary Shelley’s infamous novel Frankenstein, the protagonist Victor Frankenstein demonstrates the need for secrecy. As an ambitious scientist and egocentric citizen, Frankenstein devotes much of his time in creating life. However, due to his inability to prognosticate the ramifications of such a deed, the scientist brings to life a creature that he cannot take responsibility for. Throughout the entire novel, Frankenstein remains quiet in regards to the monster because he recognizes the potential dangers such knowledge could invent if provided to the wrong group of people. Despite his desire to life the heavy burden off of his shoulders, Frankenstein refuses to explain the process of creation. This is significant because had the scientist shared his knowledge without thought, the single monster Frankenstein created could have been multiplied to thousands. By maintaining secrecy, Victor Frankenstein ultimately provides society safety and stability.

Furthermore, modern American society emphasizes the need for privacy. Often, people’s first thought of privacy is the need for safety from hackers and identity thieves. However, the bigger issues lies in social media. The constant uploads of pictures, posts and videos tend to lead to an ultimate presentation of people’s entire lives. By submitting personal content, people are giving away their distinctive memories. At times, those personal memories that may seem wonderful to one person may become a controversial issue to another. Hence, privacy is necessary not only to protect ourselves, but also to protect others.

Although social acceptance is an essential part of life to many, privacy is also a dominant feature. Both literature and modern society portray the significance of secrecy.

Once again, thank you so much for helping me!

Not bad, not great. Your first example is great. However, “modern American society” is not specific enough. Use a concrete example. If possible, I would try to include three examples instead of two.

Probably is a 9-10.

i agree with golfcash on the suggestions but i would grade it an 8/12

Thank you!
