SAT essay score

I really need advice on this! I took the SAT back in December when I really felt prepared and I got a 1500 (better than I’ve done on any of my practice tests) but a 15/24 on the essay. I know my essay score is really bad but I feel like if I retake it, I won’t be able to improve or even maintain my actual SAT score. I’ve only taken the SAT once and the next possible test date is pretty close and I don’t feel 100% prepared at all. Should I take it again or no? I’m not trying to get into Ivy League I want to get a scholarship to UT Dallas so I was wondering if my score would be enough for that. For some more insight, I’m a straight A student and at my high school’s top 5% in rank. Thank you!!

IF you don’t think you can improve your SAT score, then I wouldn’t risk it. An essay score of 15 is perfectly fine for college admissions, especially if you are aiming for UT Dallas.

College Admissions have been dumping the SAT/ACT essay requirements left and right for the past couple of years.Even for the colleges that still ask for it, it’s less important that the overall score.Regardless, it’s a fine score for your needs.

thank you! I’m just worried that taking it once is not good enough, although I’m very happy with my score and I don’t think I have much room for improvement. I also have AP exams coming up and no time to properly study for the SAT. I was just wondering if it was fine to take it only once if my essay score wasn’t the best.
