<p>I took the June SAT and recently got my scores back. While I did well overall (2310), I received a relatively low score on the essay (7). I would really appreciate any tips on improving the essay or insights as to why I received the score I did. Here is a copy of the essay prompt and essay:</p>

<p>Essay prompt:</p>

<p>Common sense tells us that people tend to get along better with those who are like them, who think and act as they do. Many people, however, get along very well with people who are very different from them and may prefer to associate with those whose views and actions are different from their own. In fact, some people even complain that they are bored and irritated by those who are too much like them. </p>

<p>Assignment:</p>

<p>Do people tend to get along better with people who are very different from them or with those who are like them? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations. </p>

<p>Way too short. SAT essays need to be at least 1.5 pages in length to get a 10+.
Also, you have a couple of noticeable grammar mistakes that need to be fixed. You need to expand your ideas further, using exceptional language and thinking, and use solid examples (yours were good, though.)
I believe if you’d expanded it more you would’ve gotten a 9. It’s mostly about length in this case.</p>

<p>P.S: Your handwriting is excellent, it’s something like print. :smiley: My handwriting is exceptional (far from yours’ quality though) and in the 3 SAT tests I’ve done, at least 2 words have been “ignored” from my essay paper for some random reason, even though they’re in the middle of the page. No idea why.</p>

<p>i agree with Jimmy797, essay should be longer, and i did have difficulty with this essay but instead of using personal experiences, (im not saying dont) but use more historical subjects, like Martin Luther king Jr, Ghandi, Rosa parks, etc and some literature like Of Mice and Men is a great example</p>

<p>yep, its too short. You also have a lot of throw away phrases in there. You need more “meat” so to speak. I would look at some of the essays posted online that got high scores. (I am an AP reader and SAT grader).</p>
