SAT Essay Tips/Hints

What are some hints/tips/help for the SAT essay!

(I have been searching for a thread on this but I can't find anything.. lol)

also, what are some things to stay away from and some things that you should be sure to do

thanks

The best thing you can do is make up personal examples that relate greatly to the topic at hand. I would stay away from literary examples if I were you because they are difficult to tailor exactly to the prompt. I used to use literary examples (I got an 8 and a 9) then when I used made up personal examples I got an 11.

Also, make sure you fill up the full two pages (every single line)

oh you can use “I” and “you” right?

if we leave like 5 lines is this crutial ?How can i estimate to fill exactly all the lines .It is possible not to run out of lines before finishing some sentance…

filling up the entire thing is pretty crucial.

i agree about the personal experience thing. i always tried so hard to write about literature in my essays and i scored two 9’s on my essays. for the december SAT i wrote about myself, hamlet, and sex and the city and got a 12… go figure.

I disagree with this. Is it really that hard to fit the prompt to a 300+ page book? I always use the Iliad or the Odyssey in my essays. There are tons of characters and plot details that can be used to fit the prompt. Also, the readers can be biased - someone who appears to be well read is probably a better writer than the guy who doesn’t read anything outside of school.

^ it largely depends on the person taking the exam.
