Are their any differences in the way that the SAT Essay and the ACT essay are graded? From what I've read about the SAT essay grading, to get a high score your pretty much need to write a long essay in the 5 paragraph formate. Is that true? For the ACT do they want the same thing? Does anyone have any advice for taking either?

3.25-4 pgs on ACT = 11,12
2.75 - 3.25 = 10
2.5 = 9
2 = 8.

This is if every other aspect of the essays are the same throughout (i.e. they disscus the same topics and are averagely written)

The structure and style of the essays should be the same, with the SAT one slightly longer. The ACT is more yes/no questions that relate to high schoolers, like “should students have at least a C average to get their driver’s permits?” or “should schools have a dress code?”. The SAT is all abstract questions like “What is courage?” or “Is so-and-so true in his statement, that we learn most from our failures?”

The SAT is max 2 pages… ACT is max 4. I dont understand how the SAT is longer.

Students usually tend to receive more favorable scores on the SAT essay for some reason.

^ doesn’t happen for me. a 9 on the SAT and two 11s on the ACT.

Same for me. 7 on the ACT essay, 5 on the SAT one.

Yeah, the average score of the two essays are probably not much different but the people I know seem to do better on the SAT essay for some reason.

Me too, I got an 8 on the ACT essay and a 6 on the SAT.
