SAT essay vs AP English Lang Essay?

Are they somewhat related? I got a 10 on the SAT essay (first time), is that an indicator of how well I'll do on the essays for AP Eng Lang?
I also took a multiple choice diagnostic test from Sparknotes and got a "4" on it, don't know how accurate that is though...
any thoughts?

No. The SAT essay is a very formulaic essay that isn’t indicative of excellent writing. The AP English Language essay is much different in that it will require good analysis of rhetorical devices, argument, and creativity to score well. I am also in AP Lang and I have practiced the SAT essay and got a 10 on it my first time as well. AP Lang essays will require more thought and effort than the SAT essays, in my opinion.

^ Really? Thank goodness. The math and the essay are what I’m most worried about (I’m taking the SAT next month). I hate timed writing, but I’ve managed to get 7-8s on the AP Lang essays…If the SAT essay requires little thought, then hopefully I can pull off an 8.

I just hope that I can get what my PSAT estimated that I’d get (1940-2230). It’d be nice if I could bump it up for next year, but since this is my first time, I’m not expecting much.

If you can get 7-8’s on the AP Lang essays, with a little practice you can easily get 10s, 11s, or 12s on the SAT essay.

Well if you’re saying that he can easily get 10s,11s, and 12s, on the SAT, should i be able to get a 7-8 with some practice?

I’m not entirely sure since the SAT essay is more formulaic than the AP Lang essay and doesn’t require as much analysis of rhetorical devices and argument. It’s like having a great AMC (American Mathematics Contest) score usually means that you can easily get a high SAT math score but the opposite is not always true. I think you should be fine for the AP Lang essay if you practice though and get someone to critique your essays.
