SAT Essay - What are good examples?

I'm just trying to distinguish between good and bad SAT essay examples.

what are good examples to use on an SAT essay to try get a double digit score?
For example, are literary works such as The Great Gatsby good examples? What about using athletes such as Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, Lebron James as examples?
What about personal experiences? Such as using personal stories relating to basketball and it's training?
If in the heat of the moment, I can't think of a example, is it alright to make one up?
All help is appreciated.

Anything goes. As long as you can make a great essay out of an example, it’s a good example.

When I mean “great,” I mean make your examples strongly support your argument in a way that makes sense.

For the most part, I agree with R3d3mpti0n. However, I think that your examples should neither be too trite nor too esoteric. If your examples are overused, then they won’t be as effective since they lack originality. If your examples are abstract or difficult to understand, it’ll be hard to use them to prove your thesis to a layman.
