I'm brainstorming a few good, widely-applicable examples for the SAT essay, because it's not my forte. So far, I have:

Fahrenheit 451 (censorship, knowledge, differences, technology, cowardice)

1984 (censorship, betrayal, power, psychological vs physical manipulation, technology, language)

To Kill A Mockingbird (First impressions, good and evil, class differences, justice, faith in humanity)

MLK (sacrifice, courage, non-violence, equality)

FDR and the New Deal (improvement, dispelling corruption, innovation, overcoming obstacles)

Oprah (overcoming obstacles, motivation, power, change, philanthropy)

Arab Spring (dictatorship, freedom, corruption, unity)

Any others that are really helpful? I'm specifically looking for current events/historical things, but literature certainly helps too!
