i thought it would be a good idea to start a thread about universal examples that can be used no matter what the prompt and some big vocab words that can be squeezed in for any kind of content....ill start it off with the book to kill a mockingbird and the big word of conspicuous

"indomitable spirit" :)

examples from , _, and ___ all seve as compelling evidence of this fact.

you can use examples from real life, or from history.. or make stuff up. :D

yea i kno im just trying to get a good list of universal examples so on test day u dont have to sit there and draw blanks

I often use the battle near Thermopilles 476 BC, where just 400 hundred Spartan warriors managed to resist 200,000 Persian army....as an example for self-denying sacrifice and indomitable spirit...

keep it coming!!!!

Martin: Just make sure you spell it correctly! Thermopylae. :)

good thread idea.. i use one flew over the cuckoos nest and crime and punishment for like all of my essays. the odyssey can also be key.

oh, thank u syn, i'll keep that in mind :)

bump......

come on we need somemore examples

use the stuff from american history that we juniors and seniors should have learned or are learning. such as battles of ww1 ww2 spanish american war, civil war, vietnam, presidential anecdotes (washington and the cherry tree, lincolns honesty, roosevelts rough rider courage, fdr's actions in ww2, reagans "mr. gorbachav tear down this wall speech.) that sort of thing, i think, is sure to wow the person grading the test.
