Hello @NOTFLIPPANT‌ , I am not familiar with your review book. But I came here to give you a few tips I use on the SAT essay:

  1. Start your essay preferably using a quote: memorize some words of wisdom before you walk into the testing site.
  2. Have a clear thesis statement: make this sentence(s) standout. This should catch the readers eye and be bold.
3)Try to use a decent anecdote: even if your personal story is not real, make up one for the sake of the essay. Just make sure it is convincing enough to fit into the essay. Also, readers like anecdotes; you never know, the readers might do through a catharsis by your personal story.
  3. TRY TO FILL BOTH PAGES: There is no else way to do this besides practicing essays a TON. Also, don’t write big just to cover up two pages, readers will notice that.
  4. Use coherent vocabulary: only use vocabulary that you know what it means. There are so many instances in which students will throw in a ton of vocab words because they have run out of all the ideas, and they don’t even use them in the right context. You don’t have to use many, maybe 5-8 is good.
  5. Don’t spend to much time on conclusion: Only spend time to write 2-3 sentences. Readers do know that time is probably running out and the conclusion is most likely last minute.
  6. Try to include a historical example: However make sure your facts are correct though. This historical example might boost your intelligence to the readers.
  7. Always, ALWAYS write coherently: This is probably the biggest mistake students will do. They will either not put in the effort to write a proficient essay, or they will go into overkill mode and put in every SAT word they know, have the most ornate disoriented structure, and have horrible handwriting. Therefore, you should have a road map of where your essay is going throughout hr entire essay. Plan ahead of time, even if it is 1 minute. I actually doodle on my prompt paper for the first to minutes to generate ideas.
  8. Relax: Please don;t put all your heart and grit in to the first section of the SAT (essay). You have 9 more sections to go with 3 and a half hours. Stay concentrated and focused after the test.
  9. Understand the Reader: YOU MUST realize that the reader is NOT AT ALL looking forward to reading a perfect, well-thought essay. He or she understands that 25 minutes to write a clear communicative essay is difficult. They don’t mind the grammar mistakes (unless it is to many). What hey ARE looking for is a clear thought process and that you know how to organize your thoughts. That is the only way to measure reasoning skills in the essay. Come up with good examples and be bodacious about your essay.
I am sure these tips will help to increase from a 3 to a 5 in some way.
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PRACTICE A TON!!! PRACTICE ACTUALLY DOES MAKE PERFECT!!!
