I registered to take the SAT and the essay in January, but now doubting myself that was the wrong choice When researching, you can’t just submit SAT without the essay. In other words, I’m stuck then submitting the essay to any college I apply to, if i want to take advantage of superscoring for Math and english section.
I wish to apply to “tier 2” schools, not ivy’s but schools like GW, lehigh, Michigan, Wisconsin, Emory, syracuse, Tulane, etc.
Thoughts? I’m I stuck taking it again if I am not happy with my essay score but happy with all my other scoes? That is my concern. Is it possible to just take the SAT essay?
In my opinion, it’s worth it to take the essay because some schools require it. Not taking it potentially limits your options. However, if you have a finalized list of colleges (it doesn’t seem like it) that don’t require the essay, don’t bother.
Out of the colleges you listed, Michigan and Tulane require the writing section.
GW does not evaluate it. Even if you take it, they won’t look at it.
Lehigh, Wisconsin, Emory, and Syracuse do not require it.
You have plenty of time to prepare for the writing section. Watch some YouTube videos on the new SAT writing, write a few, and ask someone to grade it for you.
Hope this helped. Good luck!
I agree with @greenteen17 , and the essay was not THAT bad, don’t worry. I took both old SAT essay and new SAT essay; I can say without a doubt the new SAT essay’s rubric is a lot easier to follow to get a high score. For example, on the old SAT I was around the 60th percentile(don’t remember exact score, sorry), and on the new SAT(with identical preparation=none xD) I got a 22/24, much better… Just look at some websites about how to format your essay and you will perform very well, good luck!
