Does society put too much emphasis on working hard? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

throughout history the idea that hard work leads to success has been heavily debated. While many believe the idea is trite and untrue, history has proved time and time again that hard work does indeed lead to success. The story of thomas edison and his invention of the lightbulb, and a expirience of mine prove this.

when thomas edison began his work on the lightbulb, he knew it would be an ardous task; however, the reward would be great. as he tryed different combinations of wicks, glass, etc. he was discouraged by the lack of success;however this did not deter him. depsite the obvious urge to “take it easy” -in the words of ernie j zelink- edison preservered. eventualy, after countless hours and combinations thomas edison created the worlds first light bulb. simply put, through hard work thomas edison became one of the most highly esteemed inventors of all time.
another instance where hard work translates directly to success is evident in my childhood. when i was 8 years old my father began to encourage me to remove the training wheels from my bike and and ride on two wheels. despite my fear and doubts, my father and i went to work. he would hold on to my bike so i would be able to get used to the feeling and eventualy he deemed me ready to go. my father was wrong! the instant he let go i fell off and broke my arm. i was upset, but i did not let it deter me from my goal. i went right back to work (obviously after my arm healed), and eventualy i learned how to ride a bike ( though not without bruises to remember the journey).
cleary hard work and success are in a direct correlation. without consistent effort and preservernece the world would be without the lightbulb, and i would still have my training wheels on!

pls pls pls i am in total shock i expected a 9 or 10 not a 7:(:(:(

plss cmon its not a long essay…

maybe that’s the problem… from what i’ve seen the college board definitely favors longer essays.

I don’t know, but I feel like you didn’t really connect the prompt with your examples. You listed two examples, but you didn’t really say, “this is an example of why society emphasizes or over emphasizes on hard work.” Like, the essay doesn’t answer the prompt completely. It answers the “what,” not the “why”

You didn’t answer the question. You just tried to prove that hard work leads to success. The question asked “does society put too much emphasis on working hard.” 7 is lucky. I got an 8 and I’m so angry b/c if i got a 12 I would have got an 800 in writing, but I’m stuck with 710 :(

You didn’t answer the question ‘if too much emphasis was placed on hard work’. You answered the question as if the question was phrased as ‘Does hard work lead to success?’ You’re should be thankful you didn’t get a lower score for not answering the prompt.

@delontewest…I had the same issue w/ the March SAT.
