At the beginning of the year, I was hoping to get to MIT by just focusing purely on my math skills. I was aware of my grades being affected but didn’t really care. Not until recently have I realized that high school is more than just my looks and that if I want to get to MIT I’m gonna have to put in very hard work, and so I have. My grades improved from having mostly B’s, C’s and D’s to having mostly only A’s and some B’s. The only issue I’m currently dealing with is my SAT. It 2018, I took my pre-sat, and got a terrible grade of 890 (freshman year I got 800) this year I studied very lightly, in fact, I only studied two days. The reason behind it for me at that time was that I was probably just too busy, but in reality, I had all the time in the world, just no willpower to actually start studying. Well, I got pretty down after that, but I also starting finding out that I have much more options than just trying to MIT so I’m trying to also get into FIU and UF I was hoping you guys could recommend me some tips into how to get into UF. Idk if it’s relevant into getting admission, but I’m currently enrolled in some clubs: robotics club, mu alpha theta club, finance club, and UNICEF club. My school only allows students to take honors or higher level classes (AP or DE) so it is a bit more competitive than the rest of the other schools in the county. I want to major in mathematics, and hopefully get good enough to be able to apply for a Ph.D. Although not gifted, I’m still in love with mathematics and find it a difficult but fun hobby to do, so much so, in fact, that I’ve sometimes forget to do my school homework (I’m fixing it though). So, any help would be appreciated, sorry for the horrible grammar.
Sorry for the misleading title
@Arturo071 what is your gpa unweighted/weighted? MIT basically requires straight As and a SAT score of 1500+. UF also requires a really high weighted GPA of 4.2-4.4 and an SAT average of 1300-1450. To raise your SAT you can study for free on Khan Academy or buy a prep book. You might also want to consider getting a SAT tutor if you can afford it. Your extra curriculars are also somewhat average. Try to find some sort of leadership opportunity in those clubs or maybe start your own? You should also try to volunteer because UF also focuses on volunteering Best of luck! I hope you get into where you want to go!
For this quarter my gpa is around 4.1. I just signed up to the sat practice, thanks for that tip. I might become the leader of the engineering team in the robotics team next year, and do something for unicef in my senior year. I’m also thinking of running for vice pres in my junior year, but I’m still not sure. Thank you so much!
