I know, I know... I've been told that transfers need not do the SAT. However, hypothetically if I were applying for Cal or UCLA, would it shine my application with a good score, or would it be nothing? (maybe I'm phrasing this a little too vague)

Rephrase: If I were to apply to Cal or UCLA with a good SAT, would I have a better chance than my opponents, reckoning that we both have the same stats, gpa, etc.?

Sorry if I wasn’t clear: it would not help because your SAT will not appear anywhere on your application.

A Berkeley admissions officer told me this: The UCs use the SAT as one of many factors that can help determine how well a freshman applicant could perform as a college student. Because transfers are already college students, an SAT is not needed in order to predict how well transfers will perform. The UCs do not view the SATs primarily as an intelligence test; rather, they take it as a hint of how well a high school student might perform in college.

actually, there WAS a place to put your sat scores on the app, but it isn’t required for transfers. i would assume that a great score can’t HURT…

i slipped my scores into the additional comments since they were pretty good…>_> i said i was adding them in case they may be relevant to any scholarships since they say that the uc app also gets looked at by groups giving scholarships

Hmm! My bad guys! I don’t remember there being a place to put in your SAT scores!

I think beowulf is wright… It definitely won’t hurt!

Do you guys think the UCs will ever start requiring SATs for transfer students? Do you think collegeboard will ever make a special SAT for transfers?

^^^ HAHAHA no they are not dude. the sat is ALL about how much money u got. a lot of my friends went up from the 1700’s to like 2100 and up cuz they paid a ****load of money to go to the sat bootcamps and stuff.

cupertino: SAT’s are not an IQ test. You just wish they were.

My first test was a 1900. I studied a few hours a day for a week, took it again, and got a 2260. I’m sure if I kept studying that could be even higher.

I teach one of those Princeton Review SAT classes. Kids do improve. Implication: Not an IQ test.

Anyways, to the OP: I applied this year and found no space to put SAT scores. UC schools will not see your SAT scores, unless you take note to write them in additional comments. I don’t think that’s a good idea though, since they clearly do not care.

I was thinking that it wouldn’t hurt, too. So thank god there’s still an incentive for me to try harder. I did pretty bad… 1450 =/ Well, I never studied. I went in and took it as if it was like any other tests. I’m going to use this whole summer to study and maybe next summer as well. Wish me luck, guys. Thank you for all the great answers! ^^

And I’ll keep in mind about the comment box on the app. Oh, and also, I could always send my score through college board, right? I mean… it doesn’t hurt to try, right? ^^

@LiveTheLimit: You really don’t need the SAT as a transfer. I’m telling you straight up that you’ll pretty much be wasting your time and money. Rather, I’d recommend summer school or an internship. Either of us those will do much more for you than an SAT score when applying as a transfer (to the UC’s).

I never took the SAT (though I scored high on practice tests), and I was admitted everywhere I applied as a transfer.
