for the bioluminescence, did you all put the main purpose of the passage was to "explain the functions of various sea creatures luminscent capabilities" or something like that? or was it "case study"?

It was to explain the functions.

it was to explain the capabilities, not a case study because the author discussed several methods of biolumensence. if it was a case study, he would have focused on one animal's biolumenscence

The parent's reaction question was tricky because the author said that they always did the method of comparison when an Asian actor came on screen, making you think it was systematic, but then she got embarassed at the whole "you should be Miss World"

what was the vividly/descriptive?

demoralizing's too strong, and i did think the list "intellgence, blah blah blah" had an amusin effect

wasn't that the daughter's reaction 2 parents' comment? i could be wrong tho

Innocent & Amusing
Technical & Bewildered -- bewildered, don't think so. diction was pretty clear
Thorough & Systematic -- the comments r not thorough
Contentious & Overwrought -- overwrought..unlikely
Critical & Demoralizing -- demoralizing's just a strange word to be up there...or so i think

again, just personal thoughts

yeah idk i definitely think it was structured and systematic because in the lines that you were supposed to look at (it was lke a 1 or 2 line sentance) it specifically said "they would critque the actor from angles of intelligence, culturalness, beauty... etc"
ok so that's not quite a direct quote but u get the idea, lol

Yeah, without the exact wording of the question it is difficult to tell.

I thought it was referring to the girls' view of her parents' comparison - in which case she believed the comments to be critical and demoralizing because she was embarassed and ashamed.

changing the name of celery to "courdoroy something", she said it was more "colorful"

question - what does the author mean by "colorful"

I thought the answer was between technical & bewildered and critical & demoralizing

vividly/descriptive

that was the celery, or some other veggie, and i got it wrong (eye-catching)

i thought that question was kinda odd

Vividly descriptive is definitely right.

Guys I really think it was like how the parents brought out the whole comparison thing to the Asian actors, were they critical? technical? demoralizing? etc

was one of the answers, not sure what section, actualize or concieve?

EDIT: Passage on Sherlock Holmes (ignorant friend). Something about he couldn't begin to actualize or concieve his friends ignorance.

that was sentence completion wasn't it

actualize

okay the Chipanzee short passage

I haven't found ANY answers to those discussed yet

the scientist in passage 1 would have reacted to passage 2 by saying .. . ?

i put "you failed to make an accurate conclusion"

Also, what was the experience described when the author watched the family of monkeys in the forest?

I put D, um . .. I can't remember the exact wording

Also, what were the 2 passages generally about?

I put the comparison of chimpanzees to general human behavior

no. check edit. why isn't it conceive?

i put critical and demoralizing i think beacuse they were like "why aren't you on miss world" and she was like upset about that because they were critiscizing her appearance i thought.

because he couldn't actualize that someone in this world didnt' know that the planet revolved around the sun, actualize has been agreed upon.

CHIMPANZEE anyone . . .? ;(

i don't think she was really upset cuz the whole family was excited when there's an asian on TV

the tone of the passage was pretty light 2

or so i think

i got the chimpanzee :)

i had the chimpanzee section.. what question do u need help w/?

btw-what did you all get on practice tests, compared with what you thnk you got yesterday?
2130 practice, yesterday= <2000

i put "you failed to make an accurate conclusion"
i didn't put "general human behavior", but then again, i dont rmr

and i still think conceive makes more sense. conceive means to form in your mind. actualize means to ACTUALLY form.

EDIT: definition 3 makes the most sense---->
v., -ceived, -ceiv·ing, -ceives.

v.tr.

To become pregnant with (offspring).

To form or develop in the mind; devise: conceive a plan to increase profits.

To apprehend mentally; understand: couldn't conceive the meaning of that sentence.

To be of the opinion that; think: didn't conceive such a tragedy could occur.

To begin or originate in a specific way: a political movement conceived in the ferment of the 1960s.
