SAT fourth time?

I have already taken the SAT three times and my scores have always been increased.
1st(May,2012) CR400 M640 W450
2nd(Oct,2012) CR540 M770 W490
3rd(Dec,2012) CR600 M740 W560

I'm still a junior in highschool, so I have lots of time to study. I feel like I'm able to break 2000 next time, but I have heard that 3 times are maximum, so I am just wondering if it will hurt my chance of getting into a public state college if I do that?

I’m no expert on this and have actually heard similar things. I had my sons take practice exams through a prep company called Revolution Prep. It’s free and the test is taken completely like the real SAT. We were able to gauge their results and then study weak areas for the real sittings. Is there a reason why you took the “real” SAT as a sophomore? Just curious on that one.

Many schools superscore, meaning they only consider the highest score in each category so you can check to see how the schools you will be applying to handle this.

Your math score is fantastic, so I would just concentrate your efforts on the other two if you do take it again. For all I know, 4 times isn’t really “too many”. I think my niece took it 4 times in an attempt to break a certain barrier. Was your first test as part of a talent search? If so, I believe the results don’t get sent to schools when you eventually start sending scores - that might only be true if you take SAT as a freshman or younger though…

I didn’t know that there is a test called PSAT, so the first time was just a diagnostic test. I feel so stupid and truly regret doing that right now. And thank you so much for replying :)

Hi again! Actually, I wasn’t referring to the PSAT, which is only somewhat diagnostic. It is much shorter than the SAT and has no essay portion. There are many SAT books with full length tests in them to practice at home. But at this point, you did take it early on, and it’s prob. not that big a deal, esp. since colleges can tell you took it as a sophomore. Practice a lot through books and try really hard to make that 4th time a winner! (not that your other scores aren’t good at this point, it’s just that you yourself said you think you can break 2000, so I’d say go for it)
