SAT frustration and Columbia

Hi, so I just moved to US 4 years ago and have been struggling really hard with the reading + writing part in SAT. I really want to go to Columbia (I think I have a pretty good shot at it with my ECs)

Curently, My SAT is 2000, Math 750, Reading 600, Writing 650
Subject tests scores: Math II 740, Physics 630 and Lit 600

I am taking another SAT this January, but I can't quiet decide which to retake so that I can give my application the last boost -- the reasoning or the subject tests? If subjects, which ones should I take this time?

My ideal take on this would be bumping up the reasoning one to be 2200+, and Physics to be above 700, but I can't take both tests on the same day. Some people say I should just bump up physics, but I really don't know. Please give it a thought and advise me on what should I do.

Thanks :)

I guess the deciding factor should be whether or not you actually think you can improve a test score if you retake that test. In theory, it’s more important to have a higher SAT Reasoning score, because most colleges don’t seriously consider Subject Tests. If you think you can improve your Reasoning score, I would take that one again.

My advice for studying the Reading and Writing sections (assuming you’re going to retake the Reasoning test) on a short term schedule is to take practice tests. Afterwards, look closely at the questions you got wrong and find textual support or grammatical rules (is the sentence more concisely organized, for example) that reinforce why the answer they give is right (you should do the same for questions that you struggled with but got right). Haha I actually got 800 on CR and Writing, but only a 700 on math. Perhaps I should have sought advice from you on that section.

Best of luck! I was accepted ED by Columbia, so with a little luck on your part, we could see each other there!

Thanks! What you said just simply makes sense. I will make sure to give SAT a last good whip! Fingers crossed that I would actually get a chance to see you at Columbia!
