So I really want to work on my writing score, 500s, by doing more and more problems from a book.

Are there any books out there that just have a lot of practices and answers, without other bullcrap? like "lessons"...

Thanks in advance!!!

Kaplan 12 Practice Tests for the SAT is a start with some 600 writing practice questions and answers.

My opinion though is that with a 500 SAT writing score you would benefit greatly by supplementing your practice problems with some grammar review. The Cliff Notes Writing Grammar Usage and Style Quick Review is especially recommended

[Amazon.com: CliffsNotes Writing: Grammar, Usage, and Style Quick Review (Cliffs Quick Review) (9780470880784): Jean Eggenschwiler, Emily Dotson Biggs, Claudia L. W.
Erica Meltzer’s [Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar](http://www.amazon.com/The-Ultimate-Guide-SAT-Grammar/dp/1463599889/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343821053&sr=8-1&keywords=guide+to+sat+grammar). Don’t waste your money on anything else.

Oh no, wait - sorry! Meltzer’s book is for people who actually want to learn the grammar needed for the SAT. So it won’t pass your “bullcrap” test. (And, even though it’s filled with exercises that mimic the content of the SAT writing test, the format of the exercises is not the same as that of actual SAT problems.)

lol. Thanks a lot everybody!!!

greatly appreciated!!

I second the recommendation for Erica’s book. In fact, with a score in the 500s, you would probably benefit greatly just by going over all the free content on her blog. Most of the questions you’ll find in the practice tests of the big test prep companies will do nothing for your SAT score, IMHO.

I’d get Erica Meltzer’s book . . . but stay away from her blog. I’ve found lots of errors in the content that’s posted to the blog . . . the book, on the other hand, is error-free.

Yeah, I would recommend Erica’s book as well. I am using it right now to prepare for the December SAT and it is very easy to comprehend. I agree with dodgersmom, this book will teach you the grammar that you will need to take into the test. It will not and I do mean it will NOT teach you shortcuts. Her methods have so far been effective.

The McGraw-Hill SAT prep book has a great writing section that breaks all questions down into 14 general rules. That brought my writing score from a 670 to an 800. Writing is the easiest section to improve on. If you practice enough, you’ll know the questions well enough to know what to expect. I was even able to tell which writing section was the experimental one on my real SAT!
