(Today) a medical doctor must often (make a choice) between (engaging in) private practice (or) engaging in research. (no error)

What's the right answer?

I haven't started studying for the writing section, but my guess would be "no error". Correct me if I'm wrong!!

I agree, KRabble. I don't see any errors.

My first instinct tells me there's a problem with (make a choice) (which is what I probably would have put), but I'm also pulled toward No Error.

What's the right answer OP?

:)

That is what I thought too. The offical SAT study guide says D... Guess it's a mistake in the book? (Test 6, Section 4, Problem 29)

Don't you make a choice between something and something else (not or)? (i.e. I had to make a choice between studying and playing video games)

What? The parallelism was carried out. It can't be D.

Yeah, I think tanman is right lol.. oops!

Aah, now I understand. Never mind. Thanks for the explanation, tanman.

Thanks for clearing that up. (Even had the answer and didn't realize it!)

haha yeh there is no 'either' so you cant say 'or'..duh!!

lol jk :)

ps. you guys should memorize the 16 grammar rules in the kaplan writing book...they raised my score from like a 600 to around a 730 (writing)

Yea, it should be "and". I just realized that too.

Good job, tanman.

:)

Harry3734:

By any chance, do you think those 16 grammar rules are in any other book? So far I've gotten Grammatix, PR's prep book, and TCB blue book. I think if I buy anymore books, I can only get one more (so it has to be good!).

eh well kaplan isnt good enuf to buy, so if i were you i wud just go to the book store sit there for like a couple hours and memorize them and write em down. no point wasting money on a whole book when you just need a couple of pages. I haven't seen those grammar rules anywhere else. Grammatix kind of touches on them but the ones in the kaplan book are solid and straight forward rules that will ALWAYS appear on the SAT.

Thanks. I always feel guilty when I go to Barnes & Noble to use their books and leave without buying anything! O well... I normally get a drink at the Starbucks, so I guess that helps a little.

I think it should be changed to and because between usually refer to two things and I think you would have to use and to make it actually between two things because or suggests one or the other..one thing. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it IS D because the 'or' should be changed to "and." It makes more sense to say "between this AND that..." instead of "between this OR that..."
