SAT Help?

My Scores:

CR - 490
M - 560
W - 530

..I don't understand, I was expecting a 1900+ and thought, hey, if I just had a bad day I'd get around 1800. Prior to the test I would discuss the SAT with my friends and they'd be like "oh yeah you'll probably get somewhere between 1900-2000", and I thought that sounds pretty good. My PSAT was a 181 and I did the math section without a calculator or even showing work on any problem and still got in the realm of a 65. Everyone I know did better on the SAT then they did on the PSAT by a long shot, except me. On tests like these I'll usually get them back with great scores and it would say I did better then 95% of the school/state/nation(with the exception of the PSAT which was around 81% I think)

When I took the test I felt pretty good about it, I skipped two on the math and thought that every other question had to be right..the reading and writing sections went well too and I assumed my scores would be around the following:

Math - 720
CR - 650
W - 670

But I ended up with a 1580..my school average is a 1620..there are people in my English classes that beat me yet they don't know when to capitalize a letter or any other basics of grammar, and these are the same people that think I'm one of the smartest in the class and always come to me for help.

Sorry for rambling, but does anyone know what could have happened?

(Junior, taking the SAT again in May)

bump…thanks in advance for answering today.

The SAT is a test full of tricks, at least from what I make of it. There have been many claims refuting the SAT’s correlation to college success. I personally think that your SAT scores don’t really give a clear idea about your reading or writing skills.
Unfortunately or fortunately, good scores on this test are a prerequisite to get into a good college. My advice would be to buy a SAT prep book and sleep with it for a week or two. Better so, take a SAT prep course. The biggest secret about the SAT is that any idiot can score high with loads of practice. More importantly though, remember that you have to enjoy your high school life; test scores don’t matter much.

First, don’t panic. You can raise those scores. From what you wrote, your expectations and what happened on the day of the test don’t match. So I’m curious what kind of preparation did you do? If you could lay that out, then it would be much easier to help you. First, I agree with nishadpotdar - you need either to take a prep course or study with the SAT blue book. A prep course might be best because you could ask the person teaching specific questions and also would have other people in the class.
