SAT Help

I'm taking the SAT in June, so I've got a decent head start on studying. I rechecked my PSAT scores and realized I got a 166 (FML) because I didn't really study for it and my teacher didn't tell me that getting a wrong answer deducted points, so I guessed on a lot of them, especially the writing. I got the following scores (converted to actual SAT predictions): 640 on Math, which is on par for my college of choice (UNC), 560 on reading, and a 460 on writing (Ugh). I want to get at least a 2100, although I would be content with a 2000+. I just want to know what I should do to study, other than obviously trying to improve my writing/reading. Is their anything I could do to increase my score?

Bump, can someone please respond?

another bump…

Have you considered test prep?

For writing:

 1. Buy Barron’s Writing Guide ($8 + SH on Amazon)
 2. Review all grammar rules in the book and practice them
 3. Once you have a very good understanding of the grammar rules and how to spot them (most of them are not hard just tricky), take the 4 practice tests in the back of the book. Don’t worry about the essay parts of these practices as they are a bit outdated but the grammar part is good. Also space out your practice tests as there are only 4 of them. Don’t exhaust them all in a 2-3 week span, make them last.
 4. Move on to the blue book writing sections, keep in mind these are a bit easier and more realistic than Barron’s.

I followed these exact steps and it raised my writing score from 540-580 range to 660-700 range in about a month.

Please, refer to the stickied thread in this section. You’ll save yourself, and fellow posters a lot of trouble.

Okay my apologies I’m new to this forum.

A score of 166 is a good scores combine of course.

Descuff, I’m curious. Does me getting a 166 on my PSAT actually mean I’m going to get a 1660, even though there was no essay section on that? (The writing was all multiple choice) I’m just curious because my guidance councilor said that they were superb.

Don’t worry too much about your PSAT score… now, I haven’t taken the SAT yet (next week! woo!), but I can tell you right now I’m scoring 200 points higher than on my most recent PSAT.

It’s all about how you apply yourself and how much you prepare… without really studying, I got a 176 on my PSAT, and I’m currently scoring in the 1900-2000 range on practice tests… I also got a 650 in writing, and I’m currently scoring in the 750 range…
