SAT help

Sorry I couldn't think of a more original title. Ok, I'm going to try to transfer to a different college at the end of this semester and I believe having higher SAT scores would be helpful. My problem is math. When I took the old SATs I scored in the mid 500s with the Math section. My verbal was in the 700s. I just have trouble with the Math portion. I worked through the Barron's New SAT book and I'm on the third test in the Princeton Review Book, just working on math. The thing is I still make many careless mistakes and couple that with difficulty in answering the harder questions, my score doesn't seem like it will significantly improve. I was hoping to hit the 700 mark. Is this impossible ? What more can i do to get my score up, specifically ? Could a tutor make the goal more attainable ? It seems no matter how hard I try and concentrate I still make careless errors.

If careless mistakes are your only problem, then you should atleast get a 650 if not more. Just slow down and concentrate, you should be fine.

Well it's not just careless mistakes. It's the careless mistakes and I have trouble on the hardest questions. Although I've gone through the Barron's book, I have trouble in general on the harder questions, not so much a particular area of math like circle geometry or advanced algebra. Is the 700 possible with more work and what specifically should I focus on doing ?

grasp the basics... you'll surely improve... work harder on portions you r good at... get to know a few pre-designed types of questions for the portion u have trouble with and u'll find ur maths scores improving

btw how did you get a 700+ in CR that my trouble spot...
give me all your tricks n tactics...

Pranjal,

When I took the old SATs I didn't really use too many tricks. The one thing I did was go through the glossary in the Barron's Verbal practice book and learn all the words. In terms of the actual critical reading, I didn't really use a technique. I think English and reading comprehension just come easily to me, whereas math is something that gives me great difficulty.

Oh man, CR is a big problem to me. In math, I think you should read carefully to know what the question is asking for and try to do easy problem in ur brain so that u can save time for harder questions.
