SAT horror stories: Score Verification and Late SAT Scores

So I truly believe college board hates me. I’m here to vent and I welcome others to vent about their SAT horror stories too.

Okay so here’s what happened: for the October SAT I received a 1900 on my SAT, which is 60 points lower than my first June SAT after studying vigorously for 5 months. I knew this was wrong, despite some who said scores can fluctuate, and I ordered score verification. A week later I looked under “score details” and discovered that the test said I skipped 15 QUESTIONS on ONE section of the writing portion. That was just ridiculous, and so I knew I was right to order the score verification the day the scores came out. About 1.5 months later, I checked the college board website and noticed my writing score went up 110 points. NO letter, NO email, nothing. I had discovered it myself. It was mid December by then, and I had SAT deadlines, and asked the college board to resend my scores. A week later, no such score request was visible on my account online, and after calling them again they said they never received such a request. So I had to pay to have them resent, and I’m not even sure if they’re going to make it on time.

Horror story #2: As if the score verification nightmare wasn’t enough, it is December 21st, and I have still NOT RECEIVED my November SAT scores. It’s just ridiculous, there was an error on my part during the testing where I accidentally put my answers in the wrong section. The proctor gave me a new answer sheet, and I simply continued on from there. A report was made by the proctor explaining what happened, and yet it has taken them a month and a half to process my score. I have deadlines, and I need my SAT scores sent out by December 31st for most schools, and college board is not allowing rush orders at this time. Of course. I do have scores sent out to every school, but I would like to know what I got on this test, especially considering I paid for it and have gone through hell trying to get some sort of answer from college board besides “your score is being processed.”

Anyways, feel free to vent. I’d like to know I’m not the only one who has suffered immensely from this corporate nonsense.

Exactly same situation as your second story. Put in the wrong section and the instructor gave me another piece of sheet. So what do you do now? God I need the score

So you haven’t received your November score now? Did they write you a letter about your situation or the website just shown Not Yet Available?

My DS is a high ability student who consistently scores in the 98~99 percentile on standardized tests.

On the 11/7 sitting he scored 740CR, 770M, 720W & 6E with no prep, not even a practice sitting. -4 on CR, -1 on W multiple choice, -1 & 1 omit on M. That 6E really hurt his writing score with only 1 multiple choice question wrong.

For the 12/5 sitting he decided to review the essay strategies because he had no idea about the formula required for a high score. We were all quite shocked to see a 650CR, 710M, 600W & 8E.

A drop of 270 total points!

He finished each section in a comfortable amount of time answering every question. Afterward he was very confident that he got none wrong on the math and felt he did very well on CR & W. He assumed he was finished with testing.

We are not sure how to proceed or if it’s even worth it. The main issue is that DS was planning on being finished with testing after the 12/5 test. Now, he needs to sit for the 1/23 session to have the ability to super score.

We are considering calling CB but do not expect to hear anything other than “scores can vary by sitting”. We really don’t want to be “one of those parents”, but I would bet my house that if he felt he got all of the math problems correct then he probably did.

@Tw1ssT In a few days you will be able to see a detailed score report (and a scanned essay) on collegeboard.org. If the report does not make sense to you and/or the essay seems to deserve a higher grade, you can order hand score verification ([verify sat scores](The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board) ; [sat score error](SAT Score Error? Use Hand Score Verification to Correct the Mistake)).
It may take a looong while to hear back from the CB.

(It’s a good idea to start a new thread when posting something not addressing directly the current thread.)

I would take that bet.

I work with hundreds of students a year, and even kids who go 10 or 12 test in a row without missing an M question still occasionally miss one, even when they swear up and down that they think they got them all.

I did create a new tread, thanks for the feedback. We will wait until the 29th and review. Hand scoring may be necessary if something looks odd.

@marvin100 but how many of those kids have a 150+ IQ. I have learned not to doubt DS when he is virtually certain of something. Anyway I could see maybe messing up one section but all three seems beyond possible with his testing history. As a 6th grader his he was in the 92 percentile on the ACT composite with no prep.

I read that if only one section is way off then it’s not likely a scanning error but if all three sections are way off then there is a good possibility of a scanning error or another test takers results posted to the wrong account. I guess we will see.

Maybe your son bubbled incorrectly. If that’s the case, the score isn’t changing.

My friend’s scores are ridiculously late and the Collegeboard did not even provide a reason for the delay. Her November and December scores are still not out UNTIL NOW!!! She really needs them to know what to do on January.

@taylorrose1998 did you do person or computer verification?

Same situation as you… I’ll have to take January for a resounding 4th time because CB is inept.
