Meh. It’s up to you. If you have the time and motivation, the SAT Writing score really isn’t that difficult to bring up into the 700s.

Will it make much of a difference? Probably not…but only an admissions officer could tell you that…and the answer might differ from school to school.

With an essay score of 8, the highest you’ll get on writing is 770 (if the question are really difficult). I don’t think your writing score will matter as long as you have a very good application. Retake it only if you are confident that you’ll increase your score. Writing is very unpredictable esp with fluctuating scales and curves.
I have a 720 on writing with a 2 fours on essays too and I made only one mistake on multiple choice. Don’t know how do I raise my score on essays. 800 ON READING!! 660 here.

You can easily get your essay to at least a 10.
I got an 11 and I’m not a very good writer. Just write a full 2 pages. Include a strong, semi-long introduction, 3 bodies, and a conclusion. Put in some high level vocab… And it’s ok to BS examples. I BSed all 3 of mine and got a good score, so you can too. Also, write legibly. I honestly feel like my handwriting cost me a 12…

I would retake if I were you. Writing is probably the easiest to study for; Barron’s writing guide is great, and the thread “How to write a 12 essay in just 10 days” is marvelous.

I’m a horrible writer, and I got a 12 on both of my essays. There’s a format you need to follow to get at least a 10 on the essays. They’re looking for things like a readily available thesis and topic sentences that are strong. Concrete examples and full two-page essays are also needed. But guideline is - you need to follow a format to get a 12. I literally had no idea what I was writing on the last essay.
I think you should take it again and get an 800 on math and as high as you can on writing. Although I have to say, I’m really impressed with the 800 on CR. Props to you, my friend.

If it’s your first time taking it, I say always give it another shot. Also, in my experience the writing section is pretty easy to improve on if you focus your attention on it - I had a 690 in writing as well and I retook and got an 800.
