SAT II Advice

I would really appreciate some advice for my current situation. I am a senior this year looking to apply to HYPS as top choices. My SAT I score is decent (2300+), but I am worried that my SAT II scores won't make the cut. My current scores are as follows:

US History: 780
Biology: 760
Chemistry: 740

I am considering taking the October tests for Literature and Math II, but neither are extremely strong subjects for me. I also have not done much studying between college applications, school, and extracurriculars. If I take these tests and score less than a 750, then it would not benefit me and can possibly hurt me.

If anyone can give me some advice on this and the two tests I'm planning on taking, I would greatly appreciate it.

I’m actually a year younger than you, so I’m not sure if my word means too much, but here goes anyway:

I’d say the 740 for chemistry is definitely too low for HYPS schools, and the bio is scraping by. As far as I know, you only need 3 SAT IIs (2 actually, from what I’ve seen, but 3 to be safe), so I’d actually suggest you study up on the chem and retake that one, instead of going for two new subjects that you’re not particularly great at. I know for a fact that Harvard, at least, accepts Score Choice, and that would be beneficial for your chem. I’d also imagine that it’d be easier for you to retake a test you’ve already taken than to study for a new one, which you’ve said you haven’t really done much of. Plus, you’d have to take two tests at a time, which cuts your already-minimal study time in half for each subject. If you’d really rather not retake chem, I’d suggest you go for one of the subjects, rather than both.
Also, I don’t know about you, but I took two tests in one shot last June, and I messed up really badly on my chem (which I took first, and was actually pretty unprepared for), and my butt hurt like Hell after I was done with the testing.

Hope that helps? ^^u :)

Wow, those scores are just terrible…man I would be REALLY worried if i were you.

what the hell, they are good scores

I’d hate to be you, then, sunstriker. I’d pretty much be stuck in my room studying all day if those scores (particularly the US history and SAT I) are considered bad.

lol i guess you guys cant tell what sarcasm is. these scores are so good i dont even know why u are whining about them.

Dude, any 700+ score is not going to hurt you. Your scores are fine.

Anything 700+ is great. Your scores are great but if you are one of those people who always feel like they aren’t good enough and just strive to be perfect, then go for it. If you have the time and money and patience, retake it, but i say that you dont need to. your scores are fine!

The top Ivies usually expect an average of 750 on 2-3 SAT IIs. You’re fine, but retaking them for a higher score never hurts when schools accept Score Choice.

ok, similar question here.

I already have two SAT II scores I’m happy with, namely a 790 on Math II and a 770 on Spanish. However, I also took Biology M as a freshman. My “studying” for it consisted of reviewing my bio notes from the year, and I got a 710.

With the new score choice policy I can choose not to send the 710 to colleges, but should I? I’m considering applying to Dartmouth, Princeton, and Stanford, none of which require more than 2. I know a 710 isn’t a bad score, but at the same time it’s neither stellar nor indicative of my abilities. Should I leave it out, or just send all of them?

I’m also taking AP bio this year, if that changes anything.
