Hi, for those who took the Biology M test, are there many really specific questions that require specific, super-detailed knowledge? For example, bile SALTS (not just 'bile') emulsify fats not bile pigments...you know. well, that wasn't too hard but yea...or are questions ranged from general to quite specific? Thanks a lot guys.

is anyone going to help me out here?

well, most are based on experiments, diagrams, or defining terms.
Alot are general, but there are like 2-5 really specific ones..that may throw you off. That's how i skipped some of mine ..b/c they were too specific or I wasn't sure.
Just make sure you can apply concepts.

Just an observation....I have heard quite a few people on these boards who studied barron's inside out yet got just below a 700. The SAT II tests application of concepts and not just fact recall. That's why review books, although very very handy, only prep you about 85-90% of the way.

Also as the above poster said, there are quite a few diagrams and experiments. Learn to analyze them quickly - they are basically free points.

lordbritish is right, you can't rely on a single text book all the time.

I took SAT Bio M June and got 770. I finished early, so I looked through the E section and thought "this is ridiculously easy" despite our AP bio class only going over ecology for a week.

Anyways, learn the concepts and not the facts. The lab questions are really easy to get points on but can mess you up if you only memorized rather than learned concepts.

A BIG THING: As with any other test, READ THE QUESTION CAREFULLY. I know I messed up one question at least because I misread the question. It asked "which decade showed the biggest increase of dispersion of birds", but I read it as "which decade showed biggest...dispersion of birds".

"For example, bile SALTS (not just 'bile') emulsify fats not bile pigments."

To be honest, this question is a bit ridiculous. Are you saying the question would ask:
"Which substance emulsifies fats?"
A. bile salt
B. bile pigment
C. pepsinogen
D. hydrochloric acid

The test wouldn't ask this question with such specific answers. I think if you just remembered that "bile" emulsifies fats, then you'd be OK.

What school do you go to? I'm in potomac as well at CHS.

@afruff - I go to Bullis, you a rising senior?

Yeah. I think it's kinda funny we have the same mascot.
