I’m currently a junior and I’m planning to take the SAT II Biology M in June. I have not taken AP Biology. I took Biology Honors freshman year, but I most likely forgot everything. I’m planning to start studying after March 14 (SAT I) at the same time I study for my AP exams. Is this enough time? I have both Princeton and Barron’s books- should I read both or should I stick to a particular one? I’ve heard about Bozeman Videos so I’ll check his videos soon as well
Thanks.
Yeah, definitely check out Bozeman. I have the Barron’s book and I love it. I got another one from Barnes and Noble, its like Crash Course SAT Bio or something along those lines?? I like that one as well. However, I think Barron’s book gets the best feedback.
You’ll be fine. With those two books, 2 weeks is all you need to prepare. I used Barron’s five days before the exam (2 hours a day; 1 hour for the test and an hour for review) and got a 730 on the M test.
@southernbelle16 thanks! @DarkEclipse thank you, and wow, very impressive!
@Tennistiger Thank you
I’d also suggest ignoring the “plants” and “evolution” chapter from the Barron’s book. The content in both of those chapters is superfluous, and Princeton covers them better in its book. Other than those two chapters, Barron’s is great book. The taxonomy, photosynthesis, biochemistry and respiration chapters in Barron’s are much better than the ones in Princeton.
Whereas in Princeton, the human physiology, plants, animal behavior, evolution, cell and ecology chapters are better than the ones in Barron’s.
Thanks for the thorough breakdown. I’ll definitely take your word fir it and read the chapters you mentioned in both books. I’m planning to pursue a career in medicine so I would most likely need 750+. @DarkEclipse
@Tennistiger No problem. You’ll need to finish your pre-med requirements first before you go into medicine, so your SAT scores won’t have an impact on your entry to medical school.
You’ll do better than me, I’m sure, I was too lazy to study for the test properly (completely skipped the Taxonomy chapter )
In the exact same situation as you! Just ordered the books from Amazon and will be taking it in June
same here, I just bought kaplan and princeton but I think now is it enough? what do you guys think? and what else should I do to score above 750? And more improtant I’m from Poland so I have only amazon
@Margaret24 I’m a big fan of Barron’s and I highly recommend it. However, since you already have two books, it might be best to just work with them for now till you finish them, and if you still have time before the test, then use Barron’s to review. Don’t forget to take actual college board practice tests though!
Who else is taking the SAT 2 Biology in June?
I’ve highly considered it, but part of me wants to put it off until the fall.
@AnniiT I am. Do you know about what the test will cover? As in would I have to know specific details such as those weird hormones ( I know ADH, estrogen and all those common ones) and would I need to know ALL of the animal traits? Such as what animals have 2 heart chambers or 4 heart chambers etc? Thx.
I didn’t prep for the subject test, but I took AP Bio the same year so I was definitely prepared. I would recommend Bozeman Science and Crash Course Biology on youtube for some quick review of maybe a few concepts that you don’t understand. Good luck!
My S did not do much additional studying, but took the Biology SAT II in early May while wrapping up a quality AP Biology course at his high school. He scored in the upper 700s (Biology E).
@AnniiT I am! Good luck to you!
Will there be pedigrees on the test?
@asiankid88 I’ve heard the SAT 2 covers more content of Biology instead of critical thinking , which was emphasized on the AP Biology exam this year. And also, questions can be answered in a fast manner instead of reading passages and finding answers. So, they will give you a question and you either know it or you don’t. I recommend having a general idea of everything because you never know what college board will do.
@swiftninja Thx! It’s next Saturday, I’m so nervous! And there will most likely be a pedigree on the test.
I can’t find an official practice test. Can anyone post one that is released from collegeboard? Thank you!
@AnniiT Same here @-)
