SAT II CHem

Hey, i am taking ap chem this year, but forgot to sign up for the SAT Chem test. Is it reasonable to expect to take it next school year in the fall, or will by that time all my chem knowledge go away. Anyone else do this, and what were experiences with it. Oh and how hard is the SAT chem compared with the ap test? Should i just give up hope for taking the SAT chem and take some other subject tests?

Chem is pretty easy. I took it in May when I still hadn't learned half the book in class yet. I just read Sparknotes/Kaplan (which sucked) and got a 800 :).

I would say the SAT II and AP Chem MC are around the same difficulty, although the SAT II Chem focuses on more conceptual but basic material. However, the CE questions on SAT II Chem are easy to mess up on, so you'd benefit from doing some practice problems. I took both the SAT II and AP Chemistry, and got a 770 and hoping for a low 5 respectively.

i think it's hard to compare AP and SAT because AP have huge curves

Do you guys think its okay to take the test next year though? Is it an okay idea to take the test a few months after the course.

Standby testing

thisisanalias is pretty much right when it comes to describing the difficulty! Similar in difficulty to AP, only (obviously) the curve is worse; they test more on basic concepts rather than giving you specifically difficult and/or complex problems; and they try to trick you more than AP does (stupid stuff, like giving you a problem in grams & then asking for the answer in milligrams, or something.)

And then 88888888 is DEFINITELY right about what you should do - try for standby testing! Just show up on test day, get in the standby line, and hope that they have enough room for you :). If not, and you do have to take it next year...well....check out a prep book to jog your memory. If you know the stuff really well, you should still do well in the fall.....but however well you do know it, you'll still definitely do better now.

Your knowledge will go away, guaranteed. Study a lot over the summer, but your best bet is standby testing this Saturday.

agreed, standby testing.

You don't have to study "a lot " in the summer if you know the stuff really well now. I think a review or a practice test once a week will be enough to keep your memory active and avoid forgetting.
