I am currently in Honors Chem and I signed up to take the subject test in January because my school is on block scheduling, therefore it’s right around the time that I will complete the course. However, I bought the Barron’s review book and I have been scoring horribly on its practice tests! I’m really panicked about the exam and I’m wondering if I should cancel my registration. I’m aiming for at least a 750
Barron’s is notoriously more difficult than the actual exam. For U.S history for example, I consistently scored 100-150 points lower on Barron’s practice tests than what I got on the actual thing. If you have time/money, I’d recommend buying another book, Princeton review or McGraw-Hill are my favorite, but anything but Barron’s or kaplans should be fine.
If you can’t get another book, do the practice questions here: https://sat.collegeboard.org/practice/sat-subject-test-preparation/chemistry
and see how those go. If you find those are more manageable that Barron’s you should be alright. You can also just do a google search for practice tests, you should be able to find some. Here’s one I found online from Princeton review: http://central.wmrhsd.org/FACULTY_FILES/jhartmann/SAT%20II%20Practice%20Subject%20Test%203%20from%20Review%20Book.pdf
Take a look at the “Official Study Guide for All SAT Subject Tests”, which contains 2 actual SAT Chem practice tests.
I recommend the Cracking the SAT 2 Chemistry of Princeton Review. SAT Chemistry of Barrons is too detailed and difficult. You won’t need most of those things in Barrons to get a 800.
Thank you guys!!!
I wrote chemistry in December. Princeton review has topics that come on the test so what I did was I saw the topics in Princeton review and learnt them from Barron’s properly. Then I went through the extra topics in Barron’s. I didn’t learn the extra topics throughly, just a quick read.I was scoring 750+ on the Barron’s practice tests. Got an 800 in the real thing
