SAT II Chemistry

okay so i'm in REGULAR chemistry, at my school there's honors, but no ap chem.
my teacher makes us learn ourselves, and i have 1 prep book.

the real question is should i take the sat for chem?

no. honestly, unless therers NOTHING else for you to take, i'd say choose another subject you're more familiar with.

SAT II chem can be done with honors chem and a prep book... I used PR after taking honors chem and got a 760.

But if I'd taken it after doing AP Chem, it would've been an easy 800.

I was in Chem IB. And I did relatively well, for my hatred of the class and teacher. 790.

I bought a review book - but never studied it. I had my IB exam not long before it. And also my witch of a teacher didn't let the IB kids opt out of the term final exam. So I was ready for it anyhow.

But like the others said. You might want to get a SAT II CHEM specific guide book.

well my goal is to actually take 3 subject tests. i was planning to take math level II, and bio [after ap bio next year], and chemistry ...

and i'm aiming to go to a UC, and they require 2, but just for personal satisfaction i want to do 3.
oh yes, and the latest day i could take the SAT II for chem is the week of finals.

so i guess by studying for finals it would help for the SAT II -- vice versa.

it really depends on your regular curriculum-flip through an sat ii book in the library and if it's only a little bit more indepth, you're probably good. On the other hand, your school might totally suck (like mine does) in terms of regular chemistry, and you haven't learned anything. In that case, I'd pick something else

an honors class + Barron's would suit you best. However, get Barron's and the PR for practicetests.

basically here's how my friend analyzed our chem class, especially with our teacher (who also teaches all the honors classes)

regular with our teacher = like an honors
honors with our teacher = like an ap.

also, is the kaplan prep book good for chem?
cause that's what i bought -- before i even knew this site existed, and i still havent opened it.

Try taking a practice test and see if you think you'll be able to do it. That's the best measure. The first test you take is going to have an incredibly low score, but as long as you see there is nothing on the test that seems totally incomprehensible to you, then you can up your score 200+ points just through practice. (i went from 520 t0 750).

Also, kaplan has good practice tests but since there are only three in the book, I'd reccommend getting another one as well.

i took a reg chem class with a sucky teacher and got a 730. i got pr, barrons, and kap's and studied for about 2-3 weeks. on my first practice test i got a 450...an increase of 280poitns!!!
