hi im a junior looking to self study SAT II chemistry this summer (zumdahl)..do you have any reccomendations for books to study/practice from? I have no prior knowledge of chem (except that middle school stuff) but Im real good at physics 780 and math 800.. loooking to apply to top tier engineering schools.. i should take SAT II chemistry, which would help my chances as i would have a broader scope of knowledge.

so do you guys have any suggestions? if anyone has done this before, please give me some advice??

thanks

oh yeah, should i retake my physics score? i know i can do better but i dont want to restudy for it.. taking physics C this year so id have to refresh on optics and thermo

No, your score is fine for physics. Anything in high 700s is good.

I thought that Barron's was a good book to use because it's a little harder than the actual SAT II chem so it'll prepare you for most things they throw at you. However, I am taking a full year AP chemistry class so I didn't look at much aside for the 4practice +1diagnostic test they give you (with close-to-full explanations). Good luck!

I use Zumdahl chem too! I think the book is a bit long-winded though. I have another text that covers the same topic in half the pages.

I think you're fine. Honestly, I don't think AP Chemistry helps you that much on the SAT II; knowing the format does. A general Chemistry course is sufficient.

If you don't mind me asking, did you take a full year course in Chemistry in your middle school? Or was it an introductory course to science?

No. 780 is a respectable score. You'll be wasting your time and money pining for twenty points.
